Luis Aira is internationally renowned for his cutting-edge commercials and music videos. He's applied his critically acclaimed directorial talents to hundreds of commercials for clients as diverse as Coca Cola, MCI, AT&T, JC Penny, Carl's Junior, Wells Fargo, Converse, Honda, and Lincoln Mercury. Aira directed the MTV campaign for "Rock The Vote" featuring a soundtrack by Carlos Santana. He's been honored with numerous awards, including Clio's. In 2002 Luis expanded his private company, Ofrenda, Inc. into a full production house. Production offices are located in Hollywood, Mexico City, Bahia and San Paulo, Brazil. Ofrenda produced an independent feature entitled Girl In 3D, written and directed by Aira along with numerous commercials for the Hispanic market. Aira's screenplay Kemosabe is currently in development. Born in Cuba, and raised in Venezuela, Aira launched his career as a child actor in TV commercials. At age fifteen, he was writing newsreels at the prestigious Bolivar Films in Caracas. His outstanding work and unique vision resulted in his award of a government grant to study abroad at Fredrico Fellini's Cinecitta in Italy. Upon graduation from Emerson College, Boston in 1982, Aira directed dozens of groundbreaking music videos for the newly formed MTV Network and directed several notable short films, including Chapter X (scored by Ric Ocasek of The Cars), which won "Best Experimental Film" at the Los Angeles International Film Expo, and Beset, a long format music video piece became part of MOCA's permanent collection, and was showcased in the USA and Europe at the Institute of Contemporary Art. Aira formed the Latin rock band, TDCO where he combined his song writing and singing talent with his music video experience. He created the MTV International hit music video for his original song Tortura, which premiered at a benefit concert for Amnesty International. Aira's first commercial for Sporto Shoes at Ingalls Advertising earned him a Clio Award nomination in 1985, and launched his career as a commercial director. In 1990, after winning fourteen "New England Best of Broadcasting Awards", Aira relocated to Los Angeles where he ventured into the Latin commercial market. In 1996, Aira, Orlando Leal, Francisco Pugluise, and Pavel Cantu formed a partnership with Moving Image, a premiere Latin production company that won Latin Spots Magazine's "Best Commercial Production House" in 2000. |
